Bio

Brandi Row Lazzarini came to Willamette twice - once as a student, graduating in 1996, and again as a professor, from 2012 onward. She teaches in the Exercise and Health Science program, mainly these courses: biomechanics, motor control and learning, aging, health, and functional assessment, college colloquium, senior seminar, and the functional anatomy portion of the clinical healthcare course. Her research focuses on biomechanical changes with aging that signal an increased risk of falling, and movement changes following sport-related concussion that signal a delayed neuromotor recovery and an increased risk of injury. Specifically, she is working toward providing clinical measurement options that relate well with lab-based variables, hoping to improve the tools available to athletic trainers and physical therapists for the functional assessment of their patients. In her teaching, Prof. Row Lazzarini focuses on active learning methods and student-selected applications that increase their understanding and proficiency. In biomechanics, for example, students collect their own data in small groups and learn how to complete a biomechanical analysis of a movement of their choice. Prof. Row Lazzarini aims to support student learning by facilitating their hands-on learning activities.
