Colin Birkhead

Colin joined the AGSM faculty in 2022 after completing his PhD in Sociology at Duke University.  He teaches classes on management, entrepreneurship, and organizations.  He was honored with the Julie Abendroth award for teaching in 2024 and the Renjen Prize for research in 2025.  He has published in Academy of Management Perspectives, Human Resource Management Journal, Corporate Governance: An International Review, and elsewhere. 

Colin enjoys speaking in the third person in his faculty bio.  Most of his research is on broad-based employee ownership and making valid inferences from outlier organizations, but he is thankful for the academic freedom to research whatever the hell he finds interesting in the moment, which has recently included nonprofit organization performance, policy entrepreneurship, and the dispersion of talent within NBA teams.
