Bio
Carl Diehl's inquiries have been increasingly intertwined around questions of knowledge production and the social scaffolding of collaborative learning. In 2012, he co-founded Weird Shift, an artist-led initiative producing events where artists and writers present research and recent projects. That same year, he co-founded the constraint-based creative writing group, Hundred Thousand Million Labyrinths. The performance groups Diehl has been part of over the last twenty years code audiovisual performance instruments and extend these digital designs with costumes, music, and residual electronics. In his video essays, live cinema, net art and publications he has examined the specters of post-truth and algorithmic bias, and compared models of creative growth across contexts of art, magic, and everyday life. These works are informed by archival research and oral histories, studio experimentation, along with conversations and collaborations within distinct and interrelated communities of practice.
