Dave Sundby

Dave Sundby holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership for social justice from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. His dissertation (https://digitalcommons.lmu.edu/etd/1083/) explored the impact of regional accreditation on institutional change, especially as it relates to campus climate for diversity. He earned his BA in philosophy and religion with minors in English and math from California Lutheran University and his MA in the humanities with a concentration in philosophy from the University of Chicago.

Prior to joining Human Resources as the HR Manager in 2025, Dave worked nearly 20 years in student affairs, primarily in housing, new student orientation, and leadership development, most recently as the Assistant Dean of Students at the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette. He manages new employee recruitment, hiring, and employee relations in his current role. He is passionate about creating a positive work culture by considering both individual and systems-level actions that impact the employee experience.

Dave is married with three children. Outside of work, he enjoys watching his children grow, learn, and thrive, cooking for family and friends, and following European soccer. You also might occasionally see him performing improv comedy around Salem.
