Bio

Professor Gustavo Fonseca was born in Llata, Peru. He earned an MA in Romance Languages from the University of Oregon, as well as degrees in Spanish and Political Science from Western Oregon University. Professor Fonseca is a passionate and dedicated Spanish language educator at Willamette University, widely recognized for his effectiveness and strong commitment to student learning. He teaches language courses guided by an instructional philosophy that emphasizes aligned learning outcomes, meaningful communication, and active engagement with the Spanish-speaking world. Throughout his career, Professor Fonseca has developed culturally rich curricula that integrate politics, history, literature, music, and film to enhance language proficiency and cultural awareness. He has also led multiple study abroad programs in Peru, Ecuador, and Spain, and remains deeply engaged with U.S. and Latin American culture and politics.
