Bio
Seongkyu (Gilbert) Park joined the faculty of Willamette University’s Atkinson Graduate School of Management in 2022. Prior to that, Gilbert was an assistant professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He currently serves as the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs at AGSM, a board member at O'Neill Student Investment Fund, an executive board member at the Korea-America Finance Association, and an overseas academic research fellow at the Korea Association of Financial Engineering. He also regularly writes columns for The Asia Business Daily, which is a Korean economic media company.
Gilbert’s primary research interests are in financial economics including market microstructure, behavioral finance, derivatives, and asset pricing. His research has been published in several journals, including Management Science, Critical Finance Review, and Journal of Financial Markets. He is a four-time recipient of competitive external grants from the Hong Kong Research Council, and his work has been recognized with best paper awards from several conferences and associations. He is also the recipient of the Renjen Prize for Faculty Excellence in 2023.
Gilbert earned a Bachelor of Business Administration at Korea University with a minor in economics. After his military service as a 1st lieutenant captain at the Republic of Korea Air Force, he earned a Master of Economics at Korea University with an emphasis on economic theory. He then earned his Ph.D and M.A. at the University of Chicago in economics focusing on financial economics, asset pricing, industrial organization, and law and economics.
