Bio
Jennifer Henderson has been Willamette's Provost since July 1, 2025. Jennifer previously served as vice provost and professor of communication at Trinity University in San Antonio. As Willamette's chief academic officer, Henderson's role is to steward the university’s mission and work closely with faculty, deans, and staff to maintain the institution's high standards of academic excellence while ensuring its continued relevance in higher education.
Henderson brings extensive experience in academic leadership and strategic planning to her new role. At Trinity University, she was instrumental in overseeing strategic growth and student success initiatives. She explored global partnerships that connect undergraduate programs with graduate and professional studies, and managed complex institutional projects, including the upgrade of Trinity's student information system.
Known for her holistic approach to student development, Henderson implemented several successful programs at Trinity, including an all-intake advising model and expanded academic support services. She has also strengthened the university's commitment to student wellness and inclusion.
Henderson is a first amendment historian, teaching courses in media law and ethics. During her tenure, she has served as chair of the Department of Communication for 11 years, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs: Student Success and as board chair of KRTU, Trinity's independent nonprofit radio station.
She holds a bachelor's degree from Drake University in advertising, public relations, and English, as well as a master's degree and doctorate in communication from the University of Washington.
