Bio
Justine Nakase (she/her) received her PhD from the University of Galway in Ireland, where her research focused on race and identity in contemporary Irish performance. She is the co-editor of the two-volume collection The Golden Thread: Irish Women Playwrights, 1716–2016 (Liverpool University Press, 2021). Her writing has appeared in the journals Scene and The New Hibernia Review, and in the edited collections Interculturalism and Performance Now (Palgrave, 2018), The Methuen Drama Handbook of Interculturalism and Performance (Methuen, 2020), and Intercultural Studies in Performing Arts (Campinas State University, 2022), as well as Shakespeare in Ireland: Adaptations and Appropriation (Bloomsbury, forthcoming), Emerging From the Silence: Working-Class Women in Irish Theatre (Routledge, forthcoming), Austerity and Irish Women’s Writing and Culture (Routledge, 2022), The Gate Theatre: A Stage of Emancipation (Liverpool University Press, 2021), and Performance in a Militarized Culture (Routledge, 2017). Justine is a freelance consultant on inclusive pedagogies in higher education, as well as a theatre director and dramaturg.
