Bio
Madeline Lane-McKinley is a writer, teacher, and editor, with a PhD in Literature and Cultural Studies from University of California, Santa Cruz, whose books include Solidarity with Children: An Essay Against Adult Supremacy (Haymarket Press, 2025), Fag/Hag (Rosa Press, 2024), Comedy Against Work: Utopian Longing in Dystopian Times (Common Notions, 2022), and Dear Z, (Commune Editions, 2019), and whose writing has appeared in publications such as the Los Angeles Review of Books, Boston Review, The New Inquiry, Entropy Magazine, Lux Magazine, Post-45 Contemporaries, and Cultural Politics. Madeline is also a contributor to The Museum of Capitalism, and an editor of Blind Field: A Journal of Cultural Inquiry.
Madeline's next project is The Return of the '90s: A Cultural History of the Present, a co-edited essay collection coming out from Pluto Press in 2026.
Research interests: cultural studies, feminist theory, queer studies, Marxism, anarchism, utopian studies, and film.
