Bio

Mollie Lewis Nouwen is a Latin American historian whose research and teaching have expanded beyond her initial work on Jewish immigration to Modern Argentina to include pedagogy, writing, and research in the Humanities, aimed at artists and designers. Her book, Oy My Buenos Aires: Jewish Immigrants and the Creation of Argentine National Identity was published in 2013. Since that time, she has continued to publish works on Argentina and immigration, but her teaching has changed considerably because of working at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. At PNCA since 2016, Mollie served as the Chair of the Liberal Arts Department and has developed courses in Latin American Studies, Migration Studies, and Artistic Research. She has also mentored multiple students in artistic research and in the creation of their senior thesis projects. Her recently published works include a chapter on pedagogical strategies for teaching Immigration to Latin America and the Handbook of Latin American Studies, published by the Library of Congress, for which she is the Modern Argentina editor. She currently teaches at both PNCA and in Salem at the College of Arts and Sciences, where her courses on Modern Latin America fulfill requirements for both History and Global Cultural Studies majors.
