Pooya D Naderi

Pooya Darius Naderi is a microsociologist specializing in critical theories of deviance, surveillance, and social control. He completed his research training and Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Kansas and has taught courses in the social and behavioral sciences for 15+ years. Since 2016, he has collaborated on major research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), ranging from issues of trauma and resilience in the urban core to the health impacts of wildfires in rural and at-risk communities. Pooya is an expert in ethnography, inequality, qualitative analysis, and has published multiple peer-reviewed studies in highly respected journals in his field, including Qualitative Sociology, Disaster Medicine, Public Health in Practice, Social Thought & Research, and Health: An Interdisciplinary Journal for the Social Study of Health, Illness, & Medicine. His current work focuses on how social forces and stigmas shape people’s lived-experiences, as well as the role of power in the production of knowledge. In 2022, he joined the adjunct faculty staff at Willamette University’s PNCA and College of Arts and Sciences. As a second-generation American immigrant, Pooya is particularly passionate about cross-cultural dialogue and collaboration, inclusive teaching methods, and evidence-based learning in higher education.
