Bio

Professor Rachael Dickson is an assistant professor teaching Intellectual Property Law, Property, and Cannabis Law at Willamette. Her research focuses on various aspects of intellectual property law, ranging from applications to register trademarks with cannabis goods at the USPTO and incidences of discrimination in the USPTO’s Trademark ID Manual, to the IP portfolios of immersive art experiences and the legal issues encountered by artists who deliberately engage in acts of trademark disobedience.

Rachael previously directed the Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship Clinic at Suffolk University School of Law as a visiting assistant professor. She worked as a trademark examining attorney at the USPTO from 2017-2021, where she was given a Customer Service Award. Over the years, she has also prosecuted trademark applications and provided consultation services to other trademark attorneys in a variety of settings, most recently as senior trademark counsel at Lloyd & Mousilli.

Early in her career, Rachael worked with a medical cannabis company in Illinois on a variety of projects, including drafting cannabis license applications, training employees on applicable laws and regulations, and liaising with state inspectors. She has also helped develop AI-powered trademark search and application drafting tools for legaltech company Haloo.
