Bio

Tonya Wheeler is a Front-End Web Developer for Willamette University, responsible for web maintenance, content management, training, and technical documentation for the university websites and CMS. She also helps maintain the university calendar, virtual tour and interactive campus map and assists in project management for the Web development team.

A native Oregonian, Tonya grew up in Aloha, (just west of Portland). She moved to Alaska, beginning a fun career with the USDA Forest Service in interpretive services and law enforcement; later moving back to Oregon — still with the USFS — as assistant to the Regional Special Agent in Charge for Oregon and Washington National Forests. After marrying and starting a family, she moved to Iowa, and spent the next 17 years working in web marketing/communications in both business and education roles. In 2014, Tonya’s dream of moving back to her home state of Oregon was realized, and she began working for Willamette University.

Tonya loves the Oregon coast, enjoys day-hiking our beautiful forests and waterfalls, gardening, working on craft projects, decorating interior and exterior spaces, cooking, baking, reading, helping her husband with their annual model train village, and spending precious time with her family and friends.
