Bio
Zachary Rau was born and raised in California. His art career began as a reaction to a lack of formal training and included spray cans in tunnels in the middle of the night. Since then he has come to realize the transformative potential of strong visual communication teaching and he hopes to subvert visual paradigm by redesigning the visual language with which we communicate. He is a writer and illustrator whose work often examines the roles of masculinity in sports, music, and pop culture. This is something he blames on Ken Burns' documentaries like Baseball — the real Ken Burns effect. He is also an avid soccer player and Portland Timbers fan, a member of the Timbers Army, a husband, and a father of two boys. His clients include Salomon, University of Michigan, Adidas, Tokyopop, Comic's Buyers Guide, Travel Portland and many more. He currently teaches the digital/analog hybrid illustration course and the conceptual illustration courses at the Illustration Department at Pacific Northwest College of Art.
