How To Waive Insurance

For Domestic Students (U.S. Citizen and Permanent Resident)

Fall Deadline: September 4, 2026

All eligible students will automatically be enrolled in the PacificSource Health Plans Insurance policy every academic year and charged through our student accounts department.

Students with other medical insurance that meets the criteria of comparable coverage may submit an online waiver request each academic year in the Fall. The online waiver will be available starting on Monday, July 13, 2026.

Step 1: Register for Classes

You must actively be registered for classes for Fall 2026 semester before starting the online request for a waiver. If you are not registered for classes, you will not be able to request a waiver using the online system.

Step 2: Visit the PacificSource Health Plans website between July 13, 2026 and September 4, 2026 to submit the online waiver.

Step 3: Read over the waiver criteria to make sure that this is the right option for you.

**Contact your insurance company to verify that you have insurance coverage in Oregon. If you are enrolled in a HMO plan that only has Urgent Care or Emergency Room Coverage in Oregon, you will be asked to formally acknowledge that you understand you may have to return home for uncovered services.

Step 4: Complete the online request for a waiver.

  • Have a copy of your Health Insurance ID card prior to beginning the waiver request.
  • Go to the PacificSource Health Plans website
  • Click on Waive coverage for domestic students

**Note: Please allow up to 2 weeks for your waiver to be processed once submitted. If we require additional information, you will receive an email on your Willamette email. Once the waiver has been processed and approved, you will receive a confirmation email.

Approved waivers remain in effect through the end of that academic year (Fall through Summer). If you submit a waiver in the Fall and it is approved, it will apply to both Fall and Spring semester. If you plan on attending during the next academic year, you must submit a new waiver for that year in the Fall.

Enrollment/waivers for eligible students meeting the corresponding credit hours is/are annual and will apply for the entire 2026-2027 policy year. Students who waive/enroll Fall 2026 semester are choosing to waive/enroll for both Fall and Spring semester (if eligible both Fall and Spring semester based on credit requirement), the opportunity to waive/enroll will NOT be provided again in Spring 2027 semester. Spring open enrollment and waiver period is only applicable to new incoming students or students NOT enrolled in classes Fall 2026 semester. Late enrollment or waiver requests will not be accepted, no exceptions.

Please contact Bishop Wellness Center or email us at bishop-insurance@willamette.edu if you have any questions.
