Fall Move In Information
Your housing assignment will be available in the WU Housing portal August 6, 2026. This is where you can see what hall and room you have been placed in.
Move In for most first year students will occur on August 19, 2026, for both Salem and ArtHouse residents.
Returning students in Salem will be able to move in to their rooms after 9am on the Friday before classes begin, August 21, 2026.
ArtHouse New Students

Most students will arrive on the assigned new student move in date, Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The early arrival application will be open to students after June 1, 2026. Completing this application will assure your room and housing packet are ready for you on your move in date. If you desire to move in prior to your approved date, additional approval is necessary, and a fee of $100 per night (prior to your approved arrival date) will be assessed and charged to your student account.

We recommend that you move in to ArtHouse before going to other campus locations.
As you pull up to ArtHouse the street has been reserved for the move in time. You'll have an opportunity to check in, receive your key, and continue unloading items into a moving bin.
Street parking is limited around ArtHouse itself, so parking locations in nearby locations will be provided to you.

You can sign out your key and get other important information in the lobby of ArtHouse.
You can retrieve your ID and orientation information at the main PNCA building, the Schnitzer Center for Art and Design at 511 NW Broadway after you check in.

Yes - if you are set up to do so! Mailing items to ArtHouse requires students to set up an account with the parcel system. Information on how to set up an account will be mailed out to students after they receive their housing assignment. Packages can arrive no earlier than 10 days before student move in.

All students will start by entering the Matthews Parking Lot southbound off 12th Street, just North of the skybridge that crosses over the street. Follow directions in that lot to check-in and then you will be directed to a designated area near your assigned building.

Salem, OR 97301As you pull into your designated area, you will be greeted by community members to help unload your car, and aim you in the right direction to get your key and identification. The community members will have rosters and will know where your assigned room is. They will make sure your items get to your room safely.

First year students will be living in either the Baxter or Matthews Communities. Arrive during your check-in time slot and follow the signs in the parking lot to the tents where you will pick up your key and ID.
Transfer and other new to WU students (not first year students) can pick up their key in the Matthews Parking lot. Arrive during your check-in time slot and we can direct you to your specific areas to check in.
Parking is limited, and new students and families will be eager to get where they need to be. Please ask anyone accompanying you to wait in the car during check-in. After you get your key you will receive instructions on where your building is, where to park, and where to enter your building and get to your room.
The office of Residence Life and Housing is located in the Matthews Academic Commons, between Matthews Hall and Cascadia House. Our staff will be close by to answer any questions and unravel any challenge that may occur.

Yes! Address the packages with the student's name, and our 900 State St, Salem, OR 97301 address. Students will receive a mail box and key when they arrive onto campus, and must use their WU ID card to pick up packages at the Mail Center. Packages can arrive no earlier than 10 days before student move in.
Salem Returning Students
Move-in for returning students will begin on Friday, August 21, 2026. You can move in beginning at 9 AM on Friday. Returning students can move in any time starting August 21, 2026 after 9:00 am through the start of your first class. Returning students do not need to schedule a move in time.
You are only able to pick up your key during the hours the office of Residence Life & Housing is open. If you arrive after regular business hours (after the housing office closes), Campus Safety (503-370-6911) can let you into your assigned space. You will need to get your key from Residence Life and Housing during the posted office hours or the next business day.
