Japanese Placement Test
Instructions
Please read the following instructions carefully before beginning the test.
Who should take this test?
- Students who have previously studied Japanese and wish to be placed beyond JAPN 131 Elementary Japanese 1 should take this placement test.
- Students with no prior study of Japanese do not need to take this test and may register directly for JAPN 131 Elementary Japanese.
Steps to complete the test:
- Begin with Part 1 of the Japanese Placement Test (required for all students seeing for a placement beyond JAPN 131).
- If you are seeking placement at the 300 level or above, complete Part 2 of the Japanese Placement Test after finishing Part 1.
Notes:
- Some questions require you to handwrite your answers in Japanese. Please write your responses on a sheet of paper, then upload them as a PDF file.
- Name your file using your last name (e.g., Smith.pdf).
- You may use a mobile app to scan and convert your work into a PDF (e.g., Adobe Scan, Google Drive, Apple Notes, etc.).
