Koto Club

We are a club open to all Willamette students and faculty interested, with the purpose of spreading cultural awareness of the Koto. We perform across Willamette University and the general Salem community.  

No prior musical experience necessary! We provide instruments, instruction, and a supportive community for anyone curious. Join us today!

History

2023-2024The Koto Club revived from covid and started as a sub-club of JSSL. We had a regular attendance 7 members weekly. Members consisted of Willamette and ASP Students. We were honored to have a Shakuhachi player, Edhel, to join. The koto club performed both on-and-off campus at the State Capitol Cherry Blossom, ASP Farwell Party and Sakura Matsuri. 

2024-2025 The koto club was honored to showcase at the World Beat Gallery, where their performance was broadcast by Capitol Community Media, extending their cultural outreach to local Salem television.
