

Study Abroad in Monterrey, Mexico

A Willamette University program, designed to support the Independent Liberal Arts Colleges Abroad (ILACA) Consortium. The ILACA Consortium members: Gonzaga University, Lewis & Clark College, Pacific Lutheran University, University of Portland, University of Puget Sound, University of Redlands, Whitman University, Reed college, Whitworth University and Willamette University.
About the Program: This program offers undergraduate students with interests in art, architecture and design an opportunity to spend a semester studying art and culture in Mexico. Students travel and study with a cohort from ILACA schools led by a rotating faculty member and enroll in both UDEM classes and studio art courses specific to the program.

Monterrey is the capital of Mexico’s northeastern state of Nuevo León. Primarily a business and industrial center framed by the famous Cerro de la Silla mountain landscape, Monterrey is also famous for its “Macroplaza.” This interconnected series of parks is overlooked by a palace and surrounded by historical buildings and museums.
Students attend the University of Monterrey‘s Robert Garza Sada Center school of Architecture, Art, and Design. A space for ideas and expression that bring together and develop the best creative talent for the formation, creation, and preservation of art, architecture, and design in Latin America.
Fields of Study: Graphic Design, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Art, Fashion Design, Sustainable Innovation and Energy Engineering, Animation and Digital Effects, and Architecture.
Course Instruction (language): The Program's core curriculum is delivered in English, as are many elective classes throughout the University. Students may also take Spanish language classes at all levels and/or take classes delivered in Spanish for students with advanced

The University of Monterrey (UDEM) is one of Mexico's most prestigious universities. UDEM is a multicultural environment that develops leaders with vast professional competencies and a commitment to society. The University functions bilingually in Spanish and English. Students live in residence halls located on the modern campus, which itself is located in a vibrant neighborhood.
Contact your Study Abroad Advisor to find out specific cost information for your university. In most case, financial, grants, and loans can be applied to the cost of the program.
Airfare and personal expenses are not included.
All withdrawals must be made in writing to Willamette University's Office of International Education at Willamette University. Applicants canceling fewer than 60 days prior to the arrival date (start date) of the program will forfeit $300 of the program fee as well as any unrecoverable costs. Cancellations made fewer than 30 days prior to the start of the program will forfeit $500 of the program fee as well as any unrecoverable costs. Unrecoverable costs can include partial payment of housing and meal costs (approx. $2000) depending on the date of withdrawal. No refunds will be made after the start date of the program.
