The Office of the Registrar works in partnership with the US Department of Veterans Affairs to assist veterans and their eligible dependents to participate in the VA's Education Benefits Programs.
In accordance with Title 38 US Code 3679(e), Willamette University adopts the following additional provisions for any students using U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Post-9/11 G.I. Bill® (Ch. 33) or Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (Ch. 31) benefits, while payment to the institution is pending from VA. Willamette University will not:

STEP 1: Apply for VA Benefits via the online application on the VA website. Once approved to receive benefits, you'll receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA.
STEP 2: Submit the certificate of eligibility (COE) to the Office of the Registrar. Eligible veterans and eligible family members of veterans must be accepted into the undergraduate or graduate programs to be eligible to receive VA benefits.
STEP 3: Obtain transcripts from all schools you've previously attended (including military transcripts), and submit them to the Registrar's Office with a Veterans Transfer Evaluation Request form prior to enrollment for review of prior credit.
STEP 4: Complete the WU Certification of Benefits form distributed by the Registrar's Office. WU will not bill for your benefits until we have received your consent through this form.

The Registrar's Office works in partnership with the US Department of Veterans Affairs to assist veterans and eligible dependents to participate in the VA’s Education Benefits Programs. Eligibility for benefits is determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs which has Education Benefits Counselors available at 888-GI BILL 1 (888-442-4551)
If you have never used VA education benefits at any institution of higher education, you must complete the appropriate application form.

If you collected GI Bill® benefits at another institution, you must complete one of the following forms to identify Willamette University as your parent institution.
• Form 22-1995, if you are receiving benefits through Chapters 30, 32, 33, 1606 or 1607 (Download Form 22-1995)
• Form 22-5495, if you are receiving benefits through Chapter 35 (Download Form 22-5495)
To prevent delays in receiving your education benefits, we must certify your enrollment prior to the beginning of each semester or summer session. Please complete the WU Certification of Benefits form to initiate the certification process for the semester. Any registration changes must be reported promptly to the Registrar’s Office.
In addition, if you are receiving education benefits under Chapter 30 or Chapters 1606 or 1607, you must verify your continuing enrollment monthly. This can be done online at the Department of Veteran Affairs WAVE or by calling 1-877-823-2378. Monthly verification cannot be completed any earlier than the last day of each month.
If you choose to attend another institution of higher learning while also enrolled at Willamette University, you may be eligible to combine your enrollment hours to qualify for full-time benefits. Please contact the Veteran Certifying Official in the Registrar’s Office for assistance.
Please notify the Veteran Certifying Official in the Registrar’s Office when you are graduating or otherwise terminating the use of your VA education benefits so that we may properly notify the Department of Veteran Affairs.
