Transportation Options

There are various options you can take to get around the City of Salem.
  • Willamette University has free bicycle registration and stickers at the Campus Safety office. View more information here.

  • Located directly across the street from the Willamette campus is Salem's historic Amtrak Train station. With daily northbound service to Portland and Seattle and southbound service to Eugene, Amtrak provides a convenient transportation alternative. Sit back and relax (or even study) as you make your way to your desired destination. For fare and train schedule information, visit www.amtrak.com.

  • Salem-Keizer Transit (Cherriots) provides bus service to just about anywhere a student needs to go. Willamette is a regular stop, and campus is just a few short blocks from the main transit center.  To purchase a pass, stop by the Cherriots office at 555 Court St. NE, Suite 5230 Salem, OR 97301. For route and schedule information, visit www.cherriots.org.

  • Willamette has partnered with Lyft to provide students a new transportation resource for improved, reliable ride access to/from campus through the Safe Rides program.

    Program Details

    Tips For Riding Smart with Lyft

    • Verify your ride by making sure the license plate number, driver information, and car make and model match what you see in the app.
    • Share your location and route with a friend or loved one from within the Lyft app so they can follow your ride in real-time.
    • Follow the Lyft vehicle on GPS via the app.
    • Ask the driver to say who they are picking up.

  • Use your Willamette University student ID to pay for taxi services provided by Amanda's Taxi.

    • Call Amanda's Taxi at 503-559-2200. Tell the dispatcher you are using Willamette SafeRide.
    • Show the driver your valid Willamette ID card. The driver will enter your name and ID number on a SafeRide form.
    • When you arrive, fill in the total amount, sign, and return the form to the driver.
    • The Service Center will pay Yellow Cab and bill your student account for the total.
