Safe Driver Program

Willamette University is committed to encouraging and supporting students and staff in learning and using safe driving skills.

Before you transport students, either by University van or by private vehicle, you MUST

  1. Read the driver disqualification criteria.
  2. Complete the Test Registration Form (accessed from the Driver Disqualification page).
  3. Read the test instructions (accessed from the Test Registration page)
  4. Create an account on the United Educators website and take the test (20-30 minutes).
    1. Use the bottom section entitled "Registration"
      Do not use the top section entitled "Login to the Learning Portal"
    2. In the Registration section, just enter the "First Name," "Last Name," and "Email/Username" fields
    3. The Email/Username field should be your Willamette email address
    4. Click on the "Register" button
    5. If you are asked for an affiliation, type in "Willamette University". If you are also asked for a branch code for registration, type in 408-88841.
  5.  Take the Safe Driver Test: Driver Safety Fundamentals: Higher Ed

PLEASE NOTE: Successful course completion can take up to three hours to show in the EduRisk database. Safe Driver test results are valid for up to four years from date of successful completion.

Driver Disqualifications

The following criteria will be considered as a guide in driver disqualifications. The University reserves the right to either disqualify or qualify individuals based on the severity of an offense or accident.

    • Conviction for reckless driving
    • Leaving the scene of an accident
    • At fault in a fatal accident
    • Felony conviction involving a vehicle
    • Conviction for alcohol and/or drug-related driving offense
    • Refusal to submit to blood alcohol test
    • Driving on a suspended license
    • Failure to appear in court
    • Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
    • Assault or homicide with a motor vehicle
    • Driving in excess of 100 mph
    • Running a red light
    • Ignoring a stop sign
    • Speeding
    • Passing a stopped bus
    • Other
    • Borderline - Motor Vehicle Report will be checked every 6 months; approval subject to no deterioration in the record.
    • Prohibited - Person is prohibited from driving University insured vehicles.
