About SAGA
Willamette's Student Academic Awards and Grants committee (SAGA) is made up of a committee chair, the Executive Director of Career Initiatives, as well as five appointed faculty members. In our role, we do the following:
- Work with students to identify opportunities for research and study.
- Help students differentiate between various internal and external awards and grant opportunities.
- Prepare students' application materials for fellowships, grants, and awards.
- Serve as the organizational hub for submitting application materials and applying to both Willamette and external awards.
- Connect students with faculty who can provide feedback and guidance on applications.
If the program for which you want to apply requires institutional nominations, contact the SAGA committee chair for campus deadlines and examining the support materials for these programs; however, feel free to come in for advice and support for all other applications as well.
External Awards and Scholarships
External grants provide financial and professional support for research, completion of your undergraduate education, and funding for graduate and international study and research. Unlike financial aid, scholarships such as the Fulbright, Truman, Rhodes, or Udall are merit-based; need is not a factor.
Willamette University Academic Awards
Willamette's internal grants can help you carry out independent research or creative work during the summers. These grants provide funding to pursue intensive work related to your major, develop interests that may lead to other academic or professional training and experience, and pursue passions in community outreach.
